There is surely no more evocative sound than our Church bells ringing before the Sunday morning service on a gorgeous summer morning.

What do you think of when you hear Church bells ringing? Weddings? Special National Events, such as Remembrance Sunday or do you think of the picture of the village green with the sound of leather on willow and the local village church in the background?
At St Mary’s, Alderley we have a long history of bellringing for Sunday Services, weddings and other ‘special occasions’ and we are keen to recruit new members to join us.
I have been Tower Captain here for about 20 years and many of our ringers have come and gone during that time. We currently have a great team, but it is made up of our own ringers supported by several ringers from other local towers. Their support is really valued. I want to make sure that this tradition continues for many years to come and your church tower needs you!
If you would like to learn a new skill, meet new friends and have fun we would love you to join us to have a go at the noble art of bellringing.
Practice night is at St Mary’s Church at 7:30pm every Tuesday when you will be made very welcome.
Ringing is a very healthy activity,
- physically – you have to climb the stairs to the ringing chamber,
- mentally – you learn various ‘methods’ which helps keep your mind active
- and finally, socially, we can often be found having a drink after our practices at a local pub.
We also arrange various trips around the country to visit other church towers and cathedrals.
If you are interested in joining our ringing team, simply talk to the Bell Captain, Peter Robinson or drop a note to our contact page.
