Nether Alderley Village Hall, Church Lane, Nether Alderley
This year’s Summer Social will offer a rare opportunity to explore the archives of St Mary’s Church, Nether Alderley curated by Local Historian and former Church Archivist, Jenny Youatt.
Come along with your questions which we will do our best to answer and some of you may have tales or anecdotes about Nether Alderley you would like to share. Please bring along any treasured possessions or keepsakes you may have in your own archive, we would love to see them and hear the stories behind them.
We are holding this year’s Show & Tell in the stunning location that is Nether Alderley Village Hall which is located adjacent to St Mary’s Church. Built in 1817 by the Reverend Edward Stanley, the Hall was gifted to Nether Alderley Parish Council in 1908 by the 4th Baron, Lord Sheffield, Edward Lyulph Stanley [1839-1925]. This was on the proviso that “The Council will forever hereafter keep and maintain said building and premises in a good and proper state of repair”. The Hall re-opened last year following a challenging and sympathetic restoration project which has retained the building’s character and historical charm ensuring the people of Nether Alderley can continue to use the building for generations to come.
The beautiful and Grade I listed St Mary’s Church will be open to visit on the evening. The Church is historically associated with the Stanley family of Alderley and is built in the Gothic style. The oldest parts of the Church date from 1300 but it is likely a timber framed church existed on the site before then.
The admission charge for this event is £5.00 per person and includes a glass of Pimms and nibbles.
There will not be a Zoom link for this event.
