The tomato plant helps Christian Aid

For five years we have run a plant sale in Alderley Edge.

This year due to restrictions it was not possible.

However two weeks ago I received a phone call from Mr Burgess.

He had grown tomato plants and had intended to give them in for the plant sale.

What should he do?

We decided I would advise my neighbours and see if they would like some.

Donations to Christian Aid please.

Last week the plants were delivered separated and put out in groups on the drive.

I advised everyone they were ready for collection.

£47 in cash was collected and 10 donations were made to Christian Aid on-line.

The rest of Mr Burgess’s stock was collected by the Churches Together Christian Aid organiser.

He has spread the word to his contacts with a similar arrangement.

Two batches of seedlings that needed potting up were collected by a Methodist Church member and will be potted up by him and offered to others.

So the gift of tomato plants has been shared in a completely socially distanced way.

Christian Aid will receive the proceeds.

They in turn will support projects to help others.
